Welcome to Venice, home of semi-romantic gondola rides and hordes of tourists. Unfortunately, those rides aren’t as lovely as you might imagine because those bridges and shores function as streets. And there’s people on them there streets and they’re all looking at you, or so it seems.
Kissy kissy!
And so you look back at them. Nothing gets seafaring lovers in the mood quite like watching a bunch of people eating, walking, and carrying their loot around. Especially when it’s cold.
And it’s even colder on the water… cold enough to make anyone frigid. Pun intended.
I did not bother to go on a gondola when I was there… for this very reason… maybe
Smart man…
They should make little covered houseboat ones…
Do they really sing on those things? Or is that a movie myth? Didn’t some sit-com do a bit where the gondola guide had a horrific voice? Where I live, we obviously don’t have gondolas, but people view the hot air balloon rides with that same “sappy romance.” I used to write advertising copy for a company and was elaborating on all the sweet ways to propose to your beloved in those things – – until the owner suggested I go up in one to experience it myself. You cannot hear yourself think with that propane heater!! (Shouting) WILL YOU MARRY ME??? Your posts are always funny and designed to make me envy your travels. Thanks. (Gondola ride vs. Grizzly River Rapid Ride….hmmmm?)
Thanks.
And they weren’t singing when I was there. Vocal cords can only stand so much cold before they go on strike.
Venice is a fabulous place to take pictures just like the one you captured.
As long as it’s not peak tourist season. Winter has its benefits…

I love Venice, but I have no interest in gondola rides. I also don’t find it a romantic city — more like Capote said, it’s like eating a whole box of chocolate liqueurs in one go.
You must have forgotten to try the wine…
Oh no. I didn’t forget. 🙂

I’ve never been… and who knows what’s in the water. (Nice set up right there, BP.)
You should go, because in 10 or so years the entire city will be in the water.
Yes. This too.
I know. Someday… *sigh*
Probably money…
Excellent. I need a lot of that.

The city probably hires professional kissers to make out in gondolas to make it look romantic.
Hmmm. I do kinda need a job…

Thanks.
We’ll see if I play along with this one. I have an interesting history with awards…
You always have an interesting perspective on things. I hope you “play along.”
