Have you ever looked at those glossy tourist brochures promising you bright and colorful adventures that look like this?
Of course you have because that’s what’s best for business. However, you inevitably arrive at your destination and discover something a little different…
I took this photo in Prague, which is a beautiful city in a soot-covered sort of way. It still looks a little run down in places because of its time under communism and a lot of the sights haven’t been scrubbed clean… or so it seems.
Moral of the story: when planning a vacation, make sure your perspective matches that of the travel agency. Or better yet, do your own research. Your sleep deprived spouse and children will thank you while you’re all cooped up together in that tiny hotel room with no escape from each other.
So true, so true–about soot and small hotel rooms, despite the egregious hotel rates.
It’s strange to think that Prague was a bargain destination not too long ago.
Hey, my home town! Happily I know exactly what I’m getting into when I get back there. 🙂 But I know just what you mean.
I had already spent a lot of time near the Czech border so I already knew too. Lots of people I met didn’t.

Some years ago we went to London and booked a hotel online. When we got there, it was SO small compared to how the photos looked! I don’t think it was intended to deceive, as there weren’t too many spots from which to take the photos, but it was rather funny and a good lesson as well. Perspective in that type of thing is to be taken with a healthy grain of salt.

It might have been large… by their standards.
I had a huge room in London but it had 8 or 10 beds in it…

You sure seem to travel quite a bit. Is that for work or personal pleasure. Or does the question itself violate your anonymity?
I have traveled quite a bit, but not lately because of lack of $.
When I was traveling, it was for school and pleasure.

Why does the picture above the door on top look like a penis???
You’re not looking closely enough. It gets chopped in half at the top. That’s gotta hurt…
split decision… or circumcision
uh… how was that for perspective???
inconvenient…
